“Family Breakfast”, Oil on Canvas, 30 x 30 By Larry Lawrence
Larry likes to cruise on the back roads on his motorcycle looking for attractive views or interesting livestock…our rural atmosphere here in Centre Wellington is a great place for such inspiration. Larry enjoys the music of Leonard Cohen’s Ten New Songs album or some Enya for his creative juices to flow onto the canvas to create these delightful pieces of artwork.
For more of Larry Lawrence’s work please visit the Whitestone Gallery at 80 Norfolk Street, Guelph, ON. Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11 – 5 starting in July.

Michelle Leblanc is a member of the Whitestone Gallery and her work is very poetic and rich with intrigue. This piece is called “Wine in the Afternoon”.
Michelle Leblanc’s newer works are smaller works that combine acrylic and charcoal on watercolour paper to create abstract but evocative images. These and some larger canvases are being showcased at Manhattan’s Jazz Bistro until May 31st. Her work has been exhibited at Manhattan’s Jazz Bistro for a few weeks now, but time is running out to check it out. Manhattan’s is located at 951 Gordon St, Guelph, ON.
Inspiration for these pieces come from listening to Jeff Buckley’s album “Grace”.

This is an image created by Rebecca Erickson, a Whitestone Gallery member. This is a composite of some work she did when she was 18 in art school and at 45 for her first solo show, as well as, influenced by one of her children’s painting from a few years ago. The originals were as large as 6 ft x 3 ft. and the scale, colour, transparency and layering were done with photoshop. While Rebecca works, she lets part of her brain focus on listening to some kind of narrative, like radio, downloads of comedy albums, or books on CD.

I hope to post a series of posts on the members, their work and what inspires them as they work.

Larry Lawrence, is the next artist member of Whitestone Gallery to be showing works for the month of May 2009, called “Rural Reflections – Bucolic scenes for troubled times”. Opening reception is on Saturday May 2, 2009 from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Whitestone Gallery in Guelph, Ontario.
Larry, also affectionately known as “Toots”, has arrived onto the Guelph arts scene from Collingwood. The name “Toots” comes to him because of his other passion, music, he is a member of band where he plays the trumpet, amongst other things.
Larry paints his local rural scenes in vivid oil colours. His whimsical animal portraits evoke a smile. He also sculpts “organic abstracts” in Brazilian soapstone suitable for both interior and exterior locations. Small pieces of soapstone are not neglected; they are carved into smooth beautiful pendants and incorporated into one-of-a-kind necklaces: “Natural Neckware”. To meet the artist,”Toots”, come to the opening reception on Saturday May 2nd, 2 – 4 p.m. at the Whitestone Gallery, 80 Norfolk Street or visit his site to see more of his work at: www.lawrenceart.com
Whitestone Gallery is an artist run co-operative. The gallery is in a historic building shared with Goldie Sherman’s “Vessels”. The 18 artists share the space and the group creates an enthusiastic dynamic of work in a diversity of genres. Each artist can host a solo show in the front gallery, while the middle gallery space has a rotating show which is changed monthly.
We would be delighted to meet and mingle with you at the gallery…why not pop in for a visit and treat for your eyes and creative soul.
